01Your lights, outside your Wi-Fi
- 01
Control from any network
The WLED app only finds boards on your home Wi-Fi. Connected to WLED Hub, your boards answer from mobile data or any other network, usually within a second.
- 02
Nothing opened at home
Each board makes an outgoing connection to WLED Hub. No port forwarding, no public IP, no VPN running on your phone.
- 03
Stock WLED, no extra device
Uses the MQTT setting already built into WLED. No custom firmware, no Raspberry Pi, no home server.
- 04
Real control, not just on and off
Power, brightness, colours, every effect your board has with its own sliders and options, palettes, scenes and nightlight. Presets, playlists and sections are next.
- 05
All beds at once, or one
Change every board together or a single one, and see which boards are online, what they're showing, and when your change has landed.
- 06
Undo any change
Every change shows a quick Undo that puts the lights back the way they were.
02Other ways to reach WLED from outside
Port forwarding
Puts WLED's web page on the public internet. WLED's controls have no login, so anyone who finds it can change your lights.
VPN (Tailscale, WireGuard)
Needs an always-on device at home and the VPN running on every phone that wants control.
Home Assistant
Needs a home server, plus a Nabu Casa subscription or a tunnel you set up yourself.
WLED Hub
Paste the connection details into WLED once. Sign in from any browser, on any network.
03The full WLED, not a remote
Away from home you get the effects your board actually has, with their own settings, and a preview of each before you send it. Try a colour.
A few of the effects in WLED 16. Previews are simulated in your browser.
04Three steps

05Good to know
Do I need to be on the same Wi-Fi as my lights?
No. That's what WLED Hub is for. Once a board is connected, you can control it from any network.
What do I need?
A WLED board (ESP32 or ESP8266) on WLED 0.14 or newer that has internet access through your Wi-Fi. WLED Hub is tested on WLED 16.
What can I control remotely today?
Power, brightness, colours, effects with their sliders and options, palettes, scenes and nightlight, for all boards together or one at a time. Presets, playlists, sections, schedules and sync controls are on the way. Hardware settings like LED count stay on your home network, as WLED intends.
How fast is it?
Changes usually reach your lights within a second, and the app shows when each board has confirmed them.
What happens if my internet goes down?
Your lights keep showing whatever they were showing, and WLED's own app keeps working at home. Remote control comes back on its own when the internet does.
Is it secure?
The app talks to WLED Hub over an encrypted connection. Each board signs in with its own password that can only reach that board. The link between your board and WLED Hub uses WLED's MQTT, which WLED doesn't encrypt, so we keep each board's access limited to its own lights.
What does it cost?
Nothing while WLED Hub is in early access. Accounts are by invitation; request yours above.
Your lights, wherever you are.
